Competative Sport

I don't' want to be that parent. I don't want to be that parent that I yelled at during Setareh's soccer game today. I am ashamed but still annoyed with a parent coaching from the side. I wanted to yell "IF you wanted to coach why aren't you leaving your job early and making other sacrifices to be the coach for this team! Who do you think you are giving MY players direction over me!" Instead I yelled, "I already instructed your daughter to kick it to my daughter!" I have been upset ever since. This is 1st and 2nd grader soccer and I am enjoying bringing a wonderful sport and a sense of team to this group of girls. I want my child to enjoy a sport or two. Setareh has many more athletic skills than I ever possessed. I want those skills to help her build confidence and know what it is to be part of a team. I want all the girls to experience this. What is it about the competition that makes us as parents and coaches experience temporary insanity?

My dad got kicked out of several games when I was in high school and one of my brother's football games this fall. He looses it sometimes when his kids are concerned, but then cries and apologizes later. I think that if a parent is crazy (like my dad) then you should as best as possible, let that parent have it, or contact the league officials and have them let the parent have it. (hopefully the parents spouse/significant other let him/her have it after the game. That's what my mom, my sister, and I always did w/ my dad.)
