Shabop Shalom

Setareh's friend Lauren was here last night when I came to round the troops for Shabbat (Arian calls it Shabbop) at Barrie's. I found a great explanation for Shabbat..."It's kind of like family home evening, church and a BBQ all at the same time." We had all had a lovely Shabbat evening. Siamak often grumbles before and after but not this time. This was a very fun group of 30 somethings and our kids. NO service -just friends, challah, wine and a pot luck - Shabbat we can handle. I do hope my children will someday experience the wonder of Shabbat that I enjoyed in Denver with Grandma and Grandpa Vilu but for now this was just our speed. It was a nice way close to the week and while we won't be resting or headed to services on Saturday it was great be with friends for a nice get together. Barrie, Steph and I have been friends since I was Setareh's age - we all went to college back East and the 3 of the foursome moved back home. Barrie and I have Master's degrees and Tracy (not living in SLC anymore) and Steph are Dr.'s. How nice to bring our children together to play and share Shabbat... Thank you Barrie. We must be better at getting together with people we like...it's pretty sad that Mila and Michael live almost across the street and we only see them at Barrie and Ronnie's. Must do something to change that.
