The 1st Few Days of 08

While we were not as busy as the presidential candidates during the 1st week of the new year...we have been going, going, going. So, today the Khadjenoury's are taking a stay home day! The weather is blizzard-like (the warnings have finally taken hold) and I just wanted a nice stay home day with my family before another super busy week.

On the 2nd I headed to St. George for some WWU work. I was quite frustrated with a bust of a day on the 3rd. I hated being away from home and not accomplishing anything and not being in control of the situation. The 4th day of 2008 was great and I am so sorry that those responsible for the 3rd didn't have it together to make 2 very worthwhile days down South.
Only home for a quick and disrupted sleep we were off to celebrate Josh Arent Lipman's Bar Mitzvah early Saturday. Lots of guests at the Bar Mitzvah - and a good one to visit if it was your 1st. Josh is quite an accomplish young man and did a stellar job! Mazel Tov.

As I welcomed Mayor-to-be and former Utah State Minority Leader Becker and pointed him in the direction of the most important part of the celebration...the food, he told me this was his 1st Bar Mitzvah- he was invited to good one. What I found out at the party that night was mind blowing...this was also Siamak's 1st Bar Mitzvah! What? How could that be after 14 years together and my year as the Religious School Director at Kol Ami and a B'nai Mitvah almost evey Saturday? Again, this was the right one to attend as a 1st. Josh was incredibly accomplished and Patrice knows how to throw an amazing party. Josh seemed more adorable than ever last night - a true simchah and celebration of this boy-to-man accomplishment. Often big Bar Miztvah parties become more about the party and lose sight of the honor of the accomplished young person but not so last night. I thought it was the perfect event. Cocktails and hor's devours in the JCC lobby (I hadn't even had a glass of wine before I dripped food all over me), dinner at the "fun table", connecting with cousins from across the country and enjoying the company of cousins I see regularly - it was so fun! I also found a new favorite drink! I am not big martini fan but I became a convert last night...mmmm an Espresso Martini has got to be the best after dinner drink ever! Horah and Hip Hop both made for a great night of fun. This may have been Sia's 1st Bar Mitzvah but he is a pro at the Horah and is always needed to help keep the chair held high! In between shul and party I took Setareh and the neighbors ice skating. It is truly a pleasure to take other people's children places when those children are polite and well behaved. The Hanson children are absolutely amazingly well behaved, polite and even know how to Tarof. Shavoah Tov 08!
