I don't miss the pressure of Graduate School or the lack of money. I don't miss sharing a house with 5 other people so I can afford the rent. I don't miss the smell of wet wood everywhere after days and days of rain. I don't miss the traffic and I don't miss the cost of living. I REALLY MISS THE BERKELEY BOWL!
Yes, I miss a grocery store! I am thrilled when we are in the Bay Area and we get to stop by. I learned a lot in Grad School from my professors, peers, books and new experiences. One of my most favorite experiences was food shopping. I grew-up thinking there were two kinds of grapes: purple or green. Twelve years ago when I 1st shopped at the Berkeley Bowl - I found out there were at least 15 different kinds of grapes, 15 different kinds of oranges, tomatoes, mushrooms, eggplant, green beans,"greens", apples and the list goes on and on. There were fruits I had NEVER seen before too - fresh dates on their stems, fresh figs, star fruit, cactus ears, passion fruit, quince!! All this on a grad student budget! The Berkeley Bowl is truly one of my most favorite Bay Area destinations!

Lisa,
I didn't know that you went to graduate school in Berkeley ! OR that you like the Berkeley Bowl. When I visited Charlotte last spring, I think I walked to the Bowl almost every day for fruit and organic produce. I loved being able to walk to do my grocery shopping. They had more variety than any Wild Oats I have ever been to. I agree the Bowl is great. I'm so glad you enjoyed it too.
