Birthday Bash Persian Style

Sepideh Fatemi is an AMAZING...hostess, chef, home decorator, parent, daughter, sister, sister-in-law and all around incredible person! We arrived at the Fatemi's 1st thing Saturday morning and Sepideh serves this incredible breakfast. The Khadjenoury's are such gracious guests...we eat the breakfast and collapse until early afternoon. When we wake up, Sepideh has prepared Kashk Bademjoon (a very complicated, delicious eggplant dish)and other goodies for lunch. As we finish feasting again and making yet another big mess Sepideh casually takes out the silver, china and other beautiful serving dishes in preparation for the evening festivities. Then everyone takes a nap. Since Siamak and I just woke up we take the kids out to play so the adults can have some peace. When we return, the house is immaculate, there are beautiful appetizers and beautifully filled fruit baskets all over the house. We casually sit around with everyone and drink some tea before heading upstairs to change. An hour later the house is filled with guests.

The adult guests drink tea, eat exotic beautifully presented nuts and sweets and socialize while the kids run around. Several hours later an incredible food event occurs. The dinner that is served is as amazing as Sepideh herself. I know the names of most of the dishes but that doesn't help anyone reading this who is not Persian: giant meatballs stuffed with a sour plumb (Koofte), duck cooked in pomegranate juice (fessinjune), chicken kabob, another stew (?), the perfect basmati rice, yogurt and cucumbers, and huge salad. Later there would be cake (a Napoleon cake-you can imagine how decadent), more tea and presents and then more party until midnight.
Shabakher!
