"The food is better at HC but the Booze was better at the Wellington." Bruce 12/13/07. Two nights in a row celebrating the holidays with the staff and residents at the 2 residences of my grandmothers. Some special highlights included Arian's love of the Christmas music and much improved party at the Wellington. Shalisa, a server at the Wellington asked about Sonia, I was taken with what a meaningful gesture that was. A woman at HCF also mentioned how much she enjoyed working with Sonia. I wished both young women had known Sonia even 5 years earlier. Sonia will be 98 years old in 2 weeks - despite some frailties she is a remarkable woman. Both of my grandmothers are amazing women. Both facilities where they live put on a fabulous party - the numbers of guests served was amazing -there was a lot of love flowing through those buildings. Both places were bursting with people and had tables set up in the hallways
and every possible place to accommodate the families of their residences. It was nice that we were hosted by my grandmother's who were among the most memorable of hosts during my childhood. Who wouldn't be awed by Shabbat with the Hochstadt's and Sunday dinner with the Cohne's. Sometimes I complain about being a working mom and trying to run a household...my grandmother's both worked full-time, took care of children and their households, were both fashion icons and seemed to do it all with ease. I have a cell phone, Internet, freeways and day care... it should all be so easy...but it's not and I am in awe of my grandmothers.
