Enduring Smile

I will truly miss the sweet and welcoming smiles from Fran, Sapitsky. I am not sure why exactly, but when I would hug and kiss Fran and Sam at the synogogue as the Cohne's always noisely squish by to sit in the same row for services -Fran's dear smile somehow connected me to my Aunt Clara and Grandma Sonia. I will miss that connection and the warmth that filled my heart from smiles and hugs received from Fran. Thank you Fran for that connection - your smile will endure in my memory.

Frances J. Sapitsky 1923 ~ 2008 Frances J. Sapitsky left us on Saturday, January 19, 2008.Born in New York City on June 25, 1923 to Harry and Pauline Paver Reingold, Frances moved to Salt Lake City when she was six years old, where she went through school along with her beloved sister Ruth. Her 60 year marriage to Sam Sapitsky began in Kansas City on June 1, 1947, after which Frances and Sam made their home in Salt Lake City, where their sons Norman and Mark were born and raised. Frances had a loving family and wide circle of friends, all of whom knew her to be dedicated to helping others and caring for their needs. Whether as a gracious hostess, wonderful cook and baker or through her many volunteer activities, Frances had a warm smile and a welcoming word for all, whether newly met or a long standing relation. Her desire to help others led her to become a Cub Scout den mother, active in the PTA, the Montefiore Sisterhood, Hadassah, National Council of Jewish Women, Family Service, Kol Ami Mitzvah Committee and Sisterhood. She was a 23 years volunteer at the University of Utah Medical Center, and a member of the Hospital Auxiliary. For her own enjoyment, she wrote plays, parodies, did needlepoint, went to the symphony and ballet, baked, and was working on her own crossword dictionary. Frances loved flowers, and had a beautiful rose garden at her home where she looked forward to the tulips blooming every spring. For 35 years, she met with "the girls" for pann and mah jongg. Her husband Sam, son Norman and his wife Libba and Frances' grandchildren Jacoba and Micah, son Mark and partner Richard Metzner, along with her extended family and many friends, will always have her in their hearts. Services will be held Wednesday, January 23, 10:00 in the morning at Evans and Early Mortuary, 574 East 100 South. Those wishing to honor Frances are asked to recognize her memory through Congregation Kol Ami in Salt Lake City or Hadassah.
