Mom's Birthday
My whole family loves Sake...I am not a big fan but I enjoyed the Sake and Sushi we had at our Kyoto Celebration last month. Hope the Sake numbed some of the hip pain for you mom. It's always so fun to celebrate family birthdays at Kyoto. My mom looks fantastic for 60 something. I have heard great things about the Kura Door Holistic Japanese Spa so in keeping with the Japanese Dinner theme and mom into Asian health stuff I hope she enjoys her spa time.
St. George Bird Festival

I was very happy to have company for another WWU event in St. George. Sia and the kids joined me for some fun in the sun. Setareh thinks any hotel stay is exciting. The Hampton Inn didn't let her down - while I froze my tootsies off Fri. and Sat. informing Bird Festival attendees about the importance of H20 Conservation Sia and the kids swam and played at the hotel. I was so happy to eat with people and not be away from the kidos that despite being at work, the whole weekend was great!
Mom's Surgery
Modern medicine is amazing. One and a half hours to take out an old hip and replace it with a new metal and plastic one. I could not believe how quickly the whole procedure was. I think I am a pretty good care taker BUT I really like it when my mom takes care of me not the other way around. The anesthesia made for one zoned out momma but as it wore off and the day wore on I was amazed at my mom's progress. My mom walked from her bed to the wall less than six hours after her new body part was inserted. Amazing. My mom is also in great shape so the healing seemed to be moving along quickly. I think overall the care was pretty good at TOSH with the exception of one night and one annoying PT person. My mom cracked me up...when the annoying PT guy was teaching her how to go up and down stairs...he said, "up like to heaven and down like to heck." I'm with my mom...what the hell? If you're going to use stupid metaphors then say the damn words...so my mom made the guy say it..."hell" - I know she was annoyed and rightly so...but ya gotta love liveeen in Utah.
Mom's Recovery
I think I mentioned I like it when my mom takes care of me and not the other way around. My mom is the best care taker. I have learned a lot about good care taking from her expertise...I practiced everything I know when she got home from the hospital. As a sickly little kid my mom used to make me feel better by cleaning and organizing my room and holding my head while I puked when I was sick. I can handle vomit, I can handle my boy throwing things and needing to be wiped when he's on the potty, I can make lunch, and do laundry but when they all came at the same time...I thought I was going to lose my mind. Oh yeah, and several flower deliveries ringing the doorbell through it all. I thought I was in the Calgon commercial of the 70's. We made it through, Mom kept her cookies down, Arian took a nap and by 3pm my dad and I sat down for the lunch I started to make around 12:30 that day.
Arian's A Skier!
Yeah! "A for Arian!" Thank goodness Arian's name begins with the letter and A and Arian thinks finding A's in the world is the greatest thing because that made him a great skier. While my ski instructor cronies repeated.. "two too young" for skiing, I really wanted to get my little guy on the slopes. The sun was finally out and I thought it would be a fantastic day to ski. Setareh and Sia took to the big slopes while Arian and I played on the Explorer lift at Brighton. Arian did great, we took turns skiing because the slope really scared him. I carried him for 100 yards and he skied making a big A to stop 100 yard. Arian called the tip clamps the seat belt and wanted me to hold the seat belt....but he could do it all by himself. The best part was he can stop and he can ski (with the tip clamps of course). I am really excited to ski with him a few more times this season and I think if he skis 3 or 4 times next year...by the time he is 4 years old he will be one fantastic little skier.
Valentine's Day
I spent the day driving home from St. George. When I got home the house was empty but there was a big pot of chicken soup on the stove. It was so sweet of Sia to have a warm lunch waiting and the soup was yummy! We met at Sonia's for a brief visit with her and then Setareh went to the gym with Sia while Arian and I went home. We had super sweet cards from my dad - he always remembers Valentine's Day (Arian carried his Valentine Truck Card around for a week). I have to admit I was feeling kind of a let down about Sia- I was sort of sad that there wasn't more celebration at home. The neighbors baked cookies and I gave Setareh some heart pj's but I was sort of sad that it was so ho hum. I was tired and wanted to go to bed early...to my surprise (because I think it was the 1st time EVER in our 14 year relationship) there were Valentine's Day goodies for me waiting upstairs. Beautiful Orchids, a new CD and some pretty things for me. I was sooo happy. I felt sooo good. Thank You my Valentine!
President's Day
Sia and I used to really enjoy cross country skiing. We used to take Nero and sometimes we took Sayeh and Sahar and I recall it was really fun. Sayeh was younger than Setareh that's how long ago that was. So on our Monday Holiday I insisted we revisit an activity we hadn't done in more than a decade. I think I might have built it up a little bit too much for Setarh...after 2 minutes of skiing Setareh said, "Mom, tell me how this if fun?" Despite the whining I think we all had fun and I think we all made it about a mile up the canyon.
2nd Grade Program

It was great to see my daughter in her 2nd grade President's Day program. Setareh was one of the few kids who enunciated and knew her part. Some kids had 10 parts some (who enunciated had only 2 lines). The program was cute and when we could hear, we learned some interesting facts about all the U.S. Presidents. I have to say the parents who brought their young toddlers who cried and banged on the metal auditorium chairs throughout the program REALLY annoyed me. Get a sitter and focus on your kid on stage!
Dad's Birthday
70! Seventy!!! Wow! My dad had 2 heart attacks 20 years ago and look at him - he his amazing! Seventy, accomplished and looking terrific! My dad used to work 6 days a week, sit on 3 boards at a time and never misses a U of U basketball games. The athletic director at the U recently pointed out that my dad is longest season ticket holder for U basketball. At 70 my dad sits on about 5 boards (chairs about 2 at a time), manages State money, goes to the office every day, attends U of U football and basketball regularly, plays with his grandkids, golfs, and has become quite a little techno geek. He is amazing. We had a quaint little birthday celebration at home to mark the occasion but the big bash will be this summer in Tahoe. Can't wait!
